Copyright

Speaking as the librarian for our band, I think that a lot of organisations are very confused about copyright - and rightly so! The Act is over 15cm thick!

Are you able to put a link to the Australian Copyright Council site. They have some very useful, easy to understand topic sheets.

I have investigated for our band and have come up with some policies and procedures, however, I can't share them. I can however suggest that people look at the information and come up with a way for their band to survive the financial impact of copyright.

"But nobody will look at my small band" or "we're not doing this to make a profit" I hear people say! Don't be mistaken. The reason we don't hear of many organisations being caught is because of out of court settlements. Nobody can afford to take on the copyright guys.

Just some food for thought.

Keep puffing!

I have recently purchased a copy of the Copyright Council's Community Music book which outlines all the copyright issues relating to community banding, choirs and theatre - if anyone has any questions regarding anything to do with this, I can look it up for them.
