2008 Nationals in Brisbane

Postby Hornist on Thu Mar 06, 2008 1:37 pm

The conductor of South Pacific is Barry Davidson who played trumpet with them. I was surprised because I didn't know Barry was a conductor

Poor representation at the 2008 Nationals and 09 Nats

Postby EEbTubaGuy on Fri Mar 28, 2008 12:21 pm

Not to sure why there was not a good turnout for the nats this year. On two bands in A and B Grade. I give all bands 10 out of 10 for participating but it is a shame it was not a true National competition. Lets hope we good a good turn out at the 2009 nationals.

You may know that next the parade of bands will be held at teh Royal Easter Show, any band member marching will recieve a free pass intot he easter show. There will also be a massed band program in the arena after the parade of bands. Any concert bands want to march?

The venue is the Seymour centre and it has two great halls.

Any Sydney bands know if they will be contesting at the 09 Nats? Come on let show the brass band who to put on a competition.

I know for a fact that The Hills Academy are entering in B Grade. I know that cause the conductor told me when I signed the registration form for him.

As far as Concert Bands in Brisbane, I was talking to someone high up on the National Band Council in Brisbane and this person told me the QBA is uninterested in concert bands, so put them on Friday and get them out of the way was their thinking apparantly.

I'm glad Sutherland PCYC went up there and beat the Queensland band in B Grade.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 2008. There is already a strong rumour gaining ground that changes will be made to the published schedule. Perhaps all the concert band events put on Good Friday AGAIN! Let's watch and see...

I heard that my state of SA was well represented by the Unley contingent that travelled up for the solos, quartet, and quintet. I think the Unley group came 2nd in the Open Quintet? If so - WELL DONE!

Thanks for that, Jubey.

Our quintet were pretty pleased at that result. And congrats also to the K & N soloists who gained a placing in their respective sections (even though this isn't a brass band forum). It is good to see South Australian soloists doing their bands proud.

It would be great to see some more SA participants in Sydney in 2009! Do our state proud cos there is plenty of talent there!
