As a member of a concert band that likes to participate in the street march at a National level, I was wondering if there were any members of any other bands on here that would like to participate in the march. That is, if there were no outside factors affecting it (ie. travel commitments, scheduling...)

Is it just that none of the bands are interested in participating in this very public event or is it other factors that influence the decision not to enter? Surely there are more than 1 or 2 concert bands in the country that are capable marching bands.

Personally i enjoy marching. Comes from being in RAAF Cadets i suppose!

I think that its a good tradition. Shows the versatility of the bands.

Problem is that there often is barely enough time at a normal rehearsal, without throwing marching practice in.

Its always struck me as strange that Concert Bands arent required to march, but Brass Bands are? If there ever was talk about double standards............

Maybe the Australian Band Association should make it mandatory across the band? Maybe the should remove the blind fold and realise that there isnt just Brass Bands in Australia!!! (but thats a separate rant!!)

If only the bands members wanted to march!!! sigh....

Well, now that we have the latest schedule for the contest, concert bands will have to be very keen if they want to be in the Parade of Bands, then hotfoot it back to town for the on-stage events. Both will be on Saturday.

I have never understood the exception made for concert bands re. marching. I guess that the entries are so low that something that can be viewed by some as a major drawback to participation should be left well alone.

Funny,
On that "other" forum, the brass bandies never stop moaning about marching.
I'm sure if you really want to march at the Nats, you could talk to the Gunnedah crew, I'm sure they would be happy to accommodate you in the march. Even if you play saxophone... Shocked

All the brass band guys are looking for is to be treated in the same manner as concert bands when it comes to marching and the Nationals.

Make it optional for all.
