New South Wales Police Band

3 Positions Vacant:

Double Bass/Bass Guitar

Bass Trombone

Tuba




The New South Wales Police Band is a full-time, professional thirty piece concert band which also performs as a marching band, stage band and small ensembles as required. The band is a part of the NSW Police Public Affairs Branch, and has a strong public relations focus.




Double Bass / Bass Guitar: One vacancy is for a Double Bass & Bass Guitar player who would be expected to perform on acoustic Double Bass in the concert band, as well as Double Bass and Bass Guitar in stage band and smaller jazz and rock ensembles. The capacity to double a marching band instrument is desirable.




Bass Trombone: One vacancy is for a Bass Trombone player who would be expected to perform as a soloist and member of the concert band, marching band and stage band. The capacity to double another concert band instrument is desirable.




Tuba: One vacancy is for a Tuba player who would be expected to perform as a soloist and member of the concert band, marching band and brass ensemble. The capacity to double another concert band instrument is desirable.




Applications: Applications are invited from experienced musicians who can demonstrate a professional standard of practical (8th grade AMEB or equivalent) and a high standard of theoretical musical ability. Concert band experience, and the ability to perform on a second instrument is desirable. In keeping with the public relations focus, applicants should demonstrate good communication skills, and the ability to interact positively with members of the public. Note: Successful applicants will be required to undertake an interview and audition. The audition process will include prepared work and sight reading.




Conditions: On appointment salary is $48,836 plus shift allowances and overtime when incurred, as well as employers contribution to superannuation and leave loading. Uniform and equipment are supplied.

Employment is as a Ministerial Employee and subject to the provisions of the Crown Employees (Police Service of NSW, Special Constable (Police Band) Award). Shift work is necessary for this position.

In accordance with NSW Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998, applicants for this position are advised that they will be required to sign a Prohibited Employment Declaration and the preferred applicant will be subject to criminal records, probity and prior employment checks. This position is subject to the terms of the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act 1998. Under the terms of the Act, persons who have been convicted of certain serious sex offences are prohibited from applying for this position, as it involves child-related employment.

The NSW Police Band is continuing to go well. I don't know where these reports start from but they are usually wrong. They have an authorised strentgh of 32 I think it is and they continue to fire along. I still stay in touch so I have my finger on the pulse.
