Can you name 3 musical composers for movies?

For everything else

But they're both full bands. Each has a unique sound. Brass bands & concert band brass sections sound different, mainly due to cornets instead of trumpets, tenor horns instead of french horns & more in the barri/ eupho/ tuba lineup. I especially like the oboe sound in a concert band. Wouldn't fit into a brass band (except maybe as a soloist).

I cop the "brass bands are only 1/2 a band" all the time from concert band people. This is not so. They are just different to concert bands.

Well since we are a 55 piece Concert Band...a "Brassie" arrangement would not work for us. :(

I agree Pezza - both bands are full bands! You can have a concert band with 20 people and as long as all parts are covered its a full band!

Esentially, they are apples and oranges to each other. 2 completely different sounds.

But i'd love to play in a concert band with 55 people - that would be awesome!

All this talk about concert and brass instrumentation. What do you call a brass band with french horns instead of tenor horns? I heard the Little River Band I think it was from America a few years ago with this combination and the french horn section made the band sound awesome.

I, mainly, play with a brass band, so most concert bad arrangements won't work for us.

French horns in brass bands. In some pieces they work, others don't. Also depends on the sound the md wants. I prefer tenor horns. They work better with baritones.

Did the band from the US use trumpets or cornets? Were they trying to be a traditional 25 piece, + percussion, brass band? Or a concert band/ orchestral brass section? Many years ago I heard a band from the US called "The Brass Band", using 2 trumpets, 1 baritone, 1 trombone & 1 Eb tuba. Awesome sound, but not a brass band!

I remember playing with the Canberra City Concert Band playing a piece called the Hounds of Spring, that had both trumpet and cornet parts in it!

A lot of european concert band music seems to come with Eb cornet and flugal horn parts. Go figure!

Anyways, this is getting slightly off the orginal topic of the thread!!

What about we create a new post to discuss the different sorts of 'concert' and 'brass' bands? :D

Mr Bass Bone,
Is the Orlando Band a proffessional Band, semi proffessional, amateur?
How do you work your band?

The quick way would be to check out our website:

www.orlandoconcertband.org

We are a professional concert band with some restrictions. We have touring pros, local pros, music educators, retired military musicians among our ranks <both my wife Barbara and I are in that category...USN>.

Years ago the band voted to forgo individual payment for services at no one around here can truly afford $7,500-8000.00 for a concert. We generally get a nice donation to the band's treasury which goes for more music, upgrading our percussion <so we do not have to depend on local schools for it> and other expenses.

We try to book ourselves into Music Series sponsored by different organizations and churches. Our real big production is for the City of Orlando's Fireworks at the Fountain on July 4th.

Does that help?
