As a horn player I must say I'm not a fan of marches. There's only so many offbeats a person can handle before insanity sets in... But as far as marches go, Washington Grays is one of my favourites.

I agree with you on that one Washington Grays is one of the best ever marches written.

I have a recording of the US Air Force Band I think it is, playing it, they bring the tempo down slightly and it sounds fantastic, all the detail is heard.

An ex army muso was telling me that you weren't considered a muso in the army unless you could play Washington Grays on the march with at least 6 schooners under your belt.

Sorry no can do for this years concert unless we do it as a combined item. We performed it at the Nationals as our Stage March last year and mid year concert as well.

Any one else got any requests for next years concerts while we are at it. :D :)

You're making me jealos!

Last night we played a march medly A Tribute to Ron Goodwin, arranged by one of our forum members Hornist

Very good arrangement! The march fans in the band loved it!

It starts with Battle of Britain, jumps into Aces High, and finishes with 633 Squadron!

Yes I know that arrangement. i played it in the ambos band with Hornist conducting it in Sydney Town Hall. The band sounded awesome that day playing that piece. It was my favourite from the concert.

That seems to me to be a very stirring piece of music. I hope I hear it one day.

Hi All
Just an update from Sutherland.
We are heading to the Nationals in 2 weeks time.
Got an exciting year of concerts and gigs coming up.

Here's one of the major ones.
4th May 2pm, Sutherland Entertainment Centre, 2pm
Sutherland PCYC Band with guest vocalist Helen Zerefos and also featuring the NSW Fire Brigade Band.
More details to come.

Cheers.

All the old dears in the audience at Sutherland Civic centre will love Helen singing Sound Of Muccus and I Should Have Danced All Night (the pregnant girls song), but I'm sure they won't like the 100 miles per hour tempo of the Firies Band.

Hi All.
Just an update from Sutherland PCYC Band.
We had the concert at Sutherland Entertainment Centre last Sunday with Helen Zerefos and the NSW Fire Brigades Band.
All went very well with an audience of around 350 people. Not bad for our first attempt of hiring that building considering the cost, and yes we did make a good profit.
I have some highlights on my dvd cam, which I could put on Youtube if I could work out how to do it.

Next big concert for us will be a combined concert with Campbelltown Camden Concert Band on Sunday 29th June, out at Narellan. Both bands will play seperate, then combine at the end.
Can tell you that at least Florentiner March is in the combined items.

Will keep you informed once we have some more info.
