Bagpipes and Concert Bands?

Bagpipes and Concert Bands?

Postby bensimon on Tue Oct 02, 2007 11:05 am

Hey Guys

Does anyone know of any good arrangements that suit a concert band and a couple of pipers?

Scotland the Brave, The Black Bear, Highland Cathedral etc?

If so, how much do they cost and where do we get it!? We have found a couple of sites on the net, but i would love to hear from people who have actually done this sort of gig

Cheers

I would check with Deli on the Royal Marine Band site. He has a good insight as to where and if there is an arrangement.

But do these arrangements work?

I'm quite keen to explore this as well, but I'm interested to hear if anyone has had experiences with featuring bagpipes with a band? any traps or gotchas we should be aware of? (and how can we convince our MD's -of both groups - that it might be a good idea???)
One of these days I'll get the hang of these things.....

Talk to the Victoria Police band. They have Highland Cathedral, Scotland the Brave & that John Farnham song that has pipes, cant remember the name of it, among others. (NSW Police band may also be a help).

Defence forces bands. Defence Force School of Music (in Melb)

Schools that have both concert & pipe bands (mainly private schools)

Huh?

Hornist has a previous association with the NSW Police Band, and hopefully he might know a few pieces that will work!

Will also check out Musos Media!

Messed bands? I suppose that's what happens when you put pipers with a concert band :P

Someone mentioned the NSW Police Band. They have a heap of pipe, concert band arrangements. They also have my arrangement there of "Your The Voice". I did a combined concert not long ago at the Sydney Town Hall where the massed band combined with the pipes and it was awesome. Another one that works well with the pipers joining near the end is Man From Snowy River by Barry Bignel. We use to use a vocalist and pipes with Amazing Grace also. They have all this stuff.

Not a typo. Intended that way. And yes, it was a mess.
