A new name for ACB Forums?

General News

Them and Us

Postby Glen on Sun Sep 23, 2007 10:39 pm

Seems to be a lot of talk on the Woodys and the Brassys. But lets face it guys a concert band is made up of both a Brass section and a Woodwind section. One without the other would sound awful.

Seems to be the discussion on the name for this forum is centred around the woodwind section. I feel a name for this forum should incorporate both. If we try to centralise the name it may become easier. And just so as I don't offend anyone we cannot forget the all important Percussion section who play a big part in a concert band and should be incorporated in the name. Maybe the old saying if it ain't broke don't fix might be the answer.
It is time we put aside our We and Them attitude, and just enjoy playing music regardless of what the instrument is made of.
Cheers,
Glen.

That's why I think something that is non-woodwind/brass specific like the Bandroom is something we should be looking for.....

I mean, the real life bandroom is where we all meet up, and discuss what's been happening, etc ( as well as practice)

just my $0.02........
One of these days I'll get the hang of these things.....

Port Macquarie Hastings Municipal Band
Clarinet, Saxes (whatever they will let me play with...Tuba????)

I know I suggested "Good Vibes" in an earlier post - but I really feel that the name it has says it all. At least if someone Googled "Concert Bands" they would get it very easily.

I Googled "Concert Bands" & "Concert Band Forum" and got nothing, in the 1st 20 pages, about this site!

Yes, I have to agree that I like the present title for the forum too. It doesn't leave out any section, makes it clear what it's about, and it has a kind of.... well, dignity to it.

Hi pezza, I don't understand the web a lot - (I am an oldie) - perhaps the site is so new it has not been caught up with by Google yet - or maybe Ben will need to "register" it with them? I probably sound pretty dumb - bear with me as I learn more about my computer. :)

I agree, Australian Concert Bands says it all.
Hey Illama, don't worry about the oldie bit, I'm an oldie also and had to teach myself all about computer stuff which Ive done and I also think at my age, I'm blowing as good if not better than when I was playing full time, so don't knock us oldies, we are the backbone of the nation.. hahaha
