So...is anything going to appear here from the VBL about the Victorian State Concert Band Championships?

I agree Jubey.

Congratulations to all the bands for their efforts in the VBL championships!

Our band was very pleased to win the Open B Grade Concert title this year, having travelled from South Australia to compete. But some very good performances from our competition and a very good indicator of possible results at the upcoming Nationals in Sydney. Unfortunately we did not get to hear the A grade concert competition but I hear it was a very close contest.

Well done to all!

Well done to you, Kevin, and the Unley team. It's great that South Australia has bands like Unley, Kensington and Norwood, and many others that represent our state so well interstate.

Keep up the good work!

I play with the Geelong Concert Band who won the Open A Grade Victorian State Championships. Yes it was a close score and the scoring system was new to us. We actually lost the own choice section to Grainger Wind Symphony but won the overall championship with a win in the own choice test piece section.

It was a shame that we didn't get to listen to Grainger because we were warming up when they were on stage. With only two bands in the section, it is difficult for the second band to listen to the first. It is always good to be able to hear other bands perform.

We are currently working out if we have enough commitment to go to the Nationals in 2009.

Hi, my apologies for not being on this forum for a long time.

The VBL team was very pleased with the 2008 Victorian Concert Band Championships. Eight bands played, which was a big increase on last year (three). Thank you to all the bands that supported the event, particularly Unley Concert Band who travelled all the way from Adelaide. (incidentally, I was an inaugural member of the Unley Concert Band).

We will soon be surveying all community Victorian Concert Bands (affiliated and unaffiliated) to ascertain whether a move to Melbourne in 2009 would be more attractive. Several people have already commented informally to me that holding the event in Melbourne might encourage greater participation. I would be interested to read any comments here.
