The band currently has 4 units / divisions
Senior Concert Band - The 'top' band in the organisation, with the highest difficulty of music, and contests and state and national level
Blue Note Ensemble - An adult development band that has a lot of fun. This band tends to play more popular music, and is a great relaxed group
New Notes - Our 'novice' division for up and coming players. Very fun and dynamic group. We have a few members of other bands who play with New Notes while learning another instrument!
The band (meaning all divisions) are often seen in public, especially in summer when both SCB and BNE can be found performing on the 'Town Green' of Port Macquarie by the bay. These are a series of informal concerts on the band's normal rehearsal night for the public, and we have developed quite a following.
We have approximately 80 members in all units. The band is a bit of a fairy tale, with membership levels at rehearsal dropping to around 12 - 15 in 2003, and by 2005 the SCB won D Grade state. They were subsequently regraded to C Grade by the Band Association, and placed 1st in the recent C Grade State Contest.
But a band is only as good as the work that goes on behind the scenes, and we are lucky to have great Musical Directors, and a tireless committee who's sole aim is to see our community band grow!
