Heya everyone,
My name's Jennifer Magoulas, (although I enjoy being called Jen)
and I'm a 19yr old who plays Principal cornet in Kew Band Melbourne(Yeah you've guessed it, a brass band!!).
I've been playing cornet for 7 years and only 2 years on trumpet.
I'm currently studying cornet at the VCA doing a Bachelor of Music degree, and I hope to get into some more trumpet and flugel playing further along the track.
Just thought I'd check out the site and show my support for concert bands.
Don't believe everything you read on spitvalve, there are some brass bands that love to play and not worry about politics!

Thats all for now.

Hello Jen, When you go to Kew Band say hi to Danny Dielkens for me please. Tell him "Mum" says she misses him. His little son is the Godson of my son Mark and Danny has been calling me "Mum" for quite some time.

I have seen your posts on Spitvalve and look forward to your participation here.

Best wishes with all your music and your studies.

Bev.

Hey Jen, Is Kew going to the Nationals and what grade are they? Reason I'm asking is I'm playing in the B grade brass section and there is a record number of bands for this grade entered. Looks like we will be there all night and I pity the adjudicator sitting through all those test pieces.

Hello hornist, Kew Band Melbourne is going to the Nationals and they will be competing in A grade!!
Yes B grade is going to be huge, I'm actually good friends with Boroondara Brass who will be competing in B grade, they are determined to work harder in order to get somewhere!! Poor adjudicator.

Who are you playing with and do u have a name?

G'day Jen,
I'm actually playing B Grade with Parramatta City Band. They were promoted to B Grade just over a year ago and unfortunately, just because they were put into B grade the players don't automatically became B grade players so I think they will struggle against that strong field. The B grade test is Main Street by Eric Ball and I along with others I know think it's crap. But, a lot of test pieces that are picked are not the best.
Ive played french horn all my life and play solo horn with Parramatta by using my french horn mouthpiece with an adaptor. Most of the old brass bandies say "you can't play a tenor horn with a french horn mouthpiece" but I do and it works.
I notice you say you go to spitvalve as well. The guy I mentioned that usually has a blow on trumpet and flugel and I'm not sure what he is doing this year is the guy that signs inn there as "cornetist" who is a stirrer in there and is actually related to me.
Good luck in Brissy.

Thats all awesome but do u have a name?
Yeah Steve and I have had dealings on Spitvalve before, unfortunately not the most pleasant ones....
but if you've seen the last post, you'll see that he insulted my conductor for no reason, so I guess you can say I get a little frustrated with him. Anyways good luck with Main Street, I've played it before and It's pretty tacky so I understand.

Best of luck in Brissy.

Some people don't like to give their names on the forums Jen. Can I suggest you make contact with Hornist via a private message. He can then reply and give only you his name (if he so wishes).

Ok that's fair enough but I don't really get that. :?
Danny was so thrilled when I told him "mum" says hello.
Unfortunately he's got a bad back at the moment and the army has sent him to hospital to be checked out!!
Hopefully he'll be right as rain a.s.a.p

Hi Jen,
Yes I caught up with that news about Danny. Hope he is O.K. We had a lovely Christmas Day with him and his family at my son's home here in SA. I have a lovely photo of Danny, Mark and my husband John all with teatowels - yes the guys were drying the dishes! That has ruined the reputation of two young muso's.

You are right about ruining reputations, being caught drying up, that's similar to playing viola in an orchestra. Something most red blooded males do not do.

Ahhh - but most red blooded males like to eat the food that has been on the plates - therefore a "real gentleman" assists with the clean-up too.
