Christmas Parade....

Christmas Parade....

Postby llamafarmer on Fri Oct 19, 2007 7:40 am

I have been given the responsibility of the organisation of our town's Christmas Parade and Street Party. It's a bit daunting but things are starting to happen and it seems we will have a good time again this year.
One especially good confirmation is the agreement of our Channel 7 newsreader Jane Doyle to attend as our Judge of the entries in the Parade. Jane will read the news from 6 - 6.30pm and then jump into the helicopter with a cameraman and fly out here to officiate.

So for any SA people, for a good evening be in Two Wells on Friday December 14th. The street is closed to traffic and stalls are set up from 4.30. Parade is 7 p.m. Plenty of food available. Come and support our little town which (like many others) is feeling the effects of the ongoing drought.

You and your dear lady are welcome anytime Hornist. Summer can be a bit gruelling - we have had 45C on the back verandah. Looks like I may have 2 Bands participating as well.
That will make the atmosphere so much better, with one band leading the Parade the sound is well gone before the latter entries are through.

Looked up your address on Google Earth Hornist - it only takes 15 hours and 55 minutes to drive here. Have a toilet stop and it will only take 16 hours!!!

Me who loves driving wouyld jump at the chance to hop in the car and drive nearly non stop to SA. Only one problem, my wife would kill me. She still talks about the time I drove virtually non stop from Melbourne to Sydney. Now that was a trip.
There is serious talk though of reviving the Christmas Parade in Sydney which they used to have years ago along the lines of the Adelaide Christmas Parade. If that comes off, most of the bands around Sytdney will get an invite. I know I will be in it.

The Adelaide Christmas Pageant is now sponsored by the combined Credit Unions. John Martin's was closed up many years ago, but is still missed by many Adelaide people.

November 10th is the date for this year - I try to tape or DVD it to send to my grandchildren in Qld and Vic. It is my dream to one day be able to take them to see it in the City, just as my Mum did for my 3 kids, and my Grandma did for me.

It is a long route and the Bands do really well to march and play. I believe it is the best part of 3KM by the time it winds it's way through the streets. Hope the day is not like today for them.

Re travelling to Adelaide - what about the plane or train? Think about it for the future. I agree the drive is just too much - only did an Adelaide/Sydney once when I was coach driving. Nearly as bad as Adelaide/Perth.
