A new name for ACB Forums?

Postby bensimon on Mon Sep 17, 2007 7:50 am

Hey All

Well, we are looking to host this forum permantely, but i think www.australianconcertbandsforums.com is a little bit too long.

The brassies have a forum named SpitValve

Any ideas on a name we could use?

Look forward to hearing suggestions!

Cheers

ACB name

Postby Hornist on Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:13 am

Ben, just so long as you don't refer to us as the squeakies.. That really p's me off. That name usually comes from the brass band guys who can't swing and have a vibrato a mile wide.

don't need forums on the end - we can work that one out for ourselves!!!

--------------------------------------------

As far as squeakies etc, the brassies must be razzies with all their raspberry blowing they do!

Give me the clean dulcet tones of a woodwind choir anyday!

ok... maybe just the clarinets and below - flutes can be a little bit overpowering.....

Note: The above was stated with tongue firmly in cheek!

Totally agree Brian!

But i was thinking something short and catchy. The brassies have SpitValve, which is short and more importantly easy to remember!

I mean, we could go Moutpieces and Ligatures, but it doesnt quite have the same ring! :P

What about NoTenorHorns.com? lolol Just kidding!!

As opposed to concert bands that can swing? I'm yet to come across such a band! :P

The trouble is most commusnity bands don't play swing music and cannot swing. I'm talking about the police band, they swing like there's no tomorrow. (and the Army and Navy and Air Force)

Reminds me of what the adjudicator said about the C Grade State.
"If your gonna swing - do it properly"

lol

what about us trumpeteers!!?!!? lololol

Octave Key? Doesnt have a good ring to it...

Most concert band music is written in a key that has sharps. Brass stuff tends to have mostly flats. Well for cornets / trumpets anyway. Anything there that we can use?

I feel it needs to be something that is only a single word (or a couple of words long) and is quite snappy...but for the life of me i cant think of anything!

What about ACB (initialise the name?) or Oz Concert Bands (OCB)?

Find a name, but enough with the "them" & "us" with brass bands. Some people play with both!

How about something non-band specific???

Postby BrianC on Tue Sep 18, 2007 3:00 pm

like:-

TheBandroom

or

TheBandhall

so it could be www.thebandroom.com.au
or www.thebandhall.com.au

(Personally I like bandroom better!)

They are both ok but don't really say what this forum is all about. I was thinking of something along the lines of "valve oil"? We all use it but use different names. How about "the music room"?

or

just found a really good one "Windsong"!!! one word or two.

Let me know what you think

I was wondering about "Great Vibes" or "Good Vibes" for a name for the Forum.
