Incidentally the open A grade test piece is also on that site. I'm not sure about the other grades.

Thanks Matt that's great

Ben you're too nice. Flattery will get you everywhere

I can see problems

This piece really is scary. I'm listening to it now for the 3rd time this morning. I really like it. I think it's a great piece but it's hard. Kelly presented it's problems for us which we worked hard on but this piece is another ball game again. But having challenges and trying to work through them is how we all get better as musicans and as a band in general.

It's got some really moving parts. Some of it's playable and some of it's repetitive so that helps

LOL

Thanks cliffy!

Yeah, i agree - totally different kettle of fish to kelly.

Im gonna suggest to our MD that we actually buy this and work it to a playable standard, just to keep our hand in

Who has the most work in it? woodwinds? horns?

Hey Ben,

The clarinet and flute parts are very busy. The tempo is quite quick and they have a lot of notes to fit in. There is also a big oboe part but bands without oboes will have to find alternative arrangements there :) A lot of the passages are repetitive though.

The eupho has some tricky lines but is doubled in the bassoon for the harder parts.

The piece requires strong horn players too really and the percussion parts are massive in places. Extra percussion players are the order here I think unless you are a band that already has about 6

Rhythmically it is quite difficult in places such as the two 7/4 sections but those sections are quite repetitive so it is just a matter of making it gel.

I think it's a great piece and will look forward to working on it. I will put it in front of the band next rehearsal.

SP are not going to Brisbane. I was registered with The Hills Academy last year and played with Cliffy as a permit. Registrations are due now so I'm going to register with SP so I can help them beat Port Macquarie next year. hahaha
By the way Ben, I, or should say we, are driving to Brisbane on the Thursday so should be through Port about midday I suppose. Roughly how long will it take me from Sydney to Port? I'm booked into a motel at Grafton, so I have to get there by sundown.

Heya Hornist

So - ure gonna beat PMQ? Well...PMQ is about 11 hrs from Sydney, and Grafton is another 6 hrs on...

Just kiddin!

PMQ is about 4.5 hrs from Sydney (depending on traffic and road work). When i go to Grafton for work, i allow myself 3 hrs.

What day are you coming back? If u drop into PMQ, give me a yell!

We play on the Saturday and Sunday in Brisbane so I will be leaving Brisbane on the Monday morning and will stop somewhere on the way home. Might even grab a motel room in Port. I was going to come home New England but the road is lousy up north of Tenterfield.

Can definately confirm that South Pacific are not doing Nationals.
Can also confirm that Cliffy and SPC parted company towards the end of last year. A shame really they could have gone far with the right conductor out the front.
I'll leave it to Cliffy or TBONE to explain more.

Thats a real shame. When our band came up against SPC at state last year, it was a bloody close contest. Any word on who is running SPC these days?

Good luck to Sutherland at nats this year WSW!
